UGO Furniture, a women-owned start-up business, is setting up for success while the economy is slow in preparation for the big come back. Planning for overwhelming success is part of the daily topic in the UGO “portable” Furniture company culture.
PRLog (Press Release) – Sep 29, 2010 – According to Janis Dodson, UGO Furniture’s founder, it isn’t enough to hope for success but rather to PLAN for success. Founded in 2008 and jump-started in 2009, this portable, no tools solution for furniture has been gearing up for success by implementing systems and planning for growth and new hires.
This OREGON based company has partnered with other local manufacturers. The Box Maker, a local shipping company has worked with UGO on how to protect their UPS products from damage by maximizing efficient packaging methods. They worked with our employees to not only training them to be knowledgeable about packaging but how to streamline the packaging process for cost savings.
Newood Display Fixtures of Eugene owned by Gerry Moshofsky, guided UGO through the production process and establish time lines for most efficient delivery to UGO dealers. They also were instrumental in devising and recommending a new wood product, Mighty Pine, which met the need for light yet durable for UGO products. Might Pine was created by Newood Display Fixture and tested at Oregon State University to provide a stable and durable solution against breakage of wine bottle displays in earthquake prone areas.
There are many other local business contributing time and knowledge to help make UGO Furniture successful. These are only a small representation. American and OREGON made is the mantra for UGO Furniture in a world where container loads of foreign made furniture arrive hourly.
It is not easy to be an emerging small business in today’s economy. We are ready to grow but more action needs to be taken by banks and the government to encourage and support the small business owner. We are doing our part but starting a new business and create new manufacturing jobs. Do your part but looking for the AMERICAN MADE label to support your cities local businesses.

EUGENE, Ore.—In this economy you would think it would be the worst time for a business start up, but an expo in town is proving just the opposite. We might be in a recession right now, but many small business owners trying to get their foot in the door say it’s their time to shine.
“The customer or investors can say directly hey I really like that about it, you might want to change this,” said Janis Dodson, Ugo Furniture.
The Start-Up Expo and Summer Social put on by the Eugene Chamber of Commerce is aiming to showcase some local start-ups and what the companies are bringing to the table. The gathering is focusing on how to help small local companies expand and also fostering new ideas that the start-ups can use to make their products better. Some of the 22 attending small business owners say it’s a time to find possible investors but also get feedback and find new employees.
“We’re here for recruiting, we want to find more tech people in Eugene, keep them in Eugene, we don’t want them moving to Portland or Salem,” said Chad Barczak, IDX Technology.
This is the first Start-up Expo and Summer Social put on by the Chamber, but organizers say they’ll be doing these once a year to bring small business together. The Start-up Expo just got underway at the Valley River Inn. The gathering wraps up at eight.

Ugo Furniture: Northwest Home Improvement Store, Latest Retailer to Pick up Ugo Furniture’s Outdoor Line! Ugo Furniture (pronounced; you-go) has added Jerry’s Home Improvement store out of Eugene Oregon to the list of retailers offering their products.
Like its name, Ugo’s outdoor line is meant to be used outdoor’s for uses on patio’s, around pools, and on deck’s etc. Ugo, a company that developed a quick-assemble furniture line is adding yet another dimension to its clever furniture line.
The outdoor line has followed on the heels of its success with its indoor line and its respective record assembly time of 31 seconds. Ugo’s outdoor line has supplemented the company’s offerings and answered the tremendous request from their customers to see an outdoor version. Ugo launched their outdoor line the beginning of March only to see the largest volume of sales to date for a single product line in the company’s history.
